Nobody can price an installation over the phone

Not us, and not anyone else who is being straight with you. The number depends on a site evaluation with soil samples and testing, and on what the permit comes back requiring. Until those are done, any figure is a guess dressed up as a quote.

What we can do on the first call is give you a ballpark range for a property like yours, tell you exactly what could move it, and send you a written estimate for the evaluation and permit stage so the work can start. The firm number follows once the results are in.

How the permit works in Northeast Florida right now

Florida moved the onsite sewage program from the Department of Health to the Department of Environmental Protection on 1 July 2021. DEP has taken over permitting in the 16 Northwest Florida counties and Marion County so far, and has not published a schedule for the rest of the state.

For Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns today, that means your permit still runs through the county health department. We pull it, we schedule the inspections, and we deal with whichever office holds the file when your job is in front of it.

What the site evaluation decides

The soil profile and the wet-season water table set the design. On a coastal or low-lying lot, those two findings routinely decide whether you get a conventional gravity system, a mound, or an aerobic treatment unit. They also set the size of the drain field and where on the lot it can legally sit, given the setbacks to your well, your property lines and any surface water.

If the property also has a well

If the property is on a private well as well as septic, the two have to be designed around each other. Rule 62-6.005 of the Florida Administrative Code governs how far the system has to sit from the well, at no closer than 75 feet, and on a tight lot that constraint decides the layout. We work septic, and we plan the layout around the well that is there — so the separation is checked before the design is set rather than after.
